Teaching and Mentoring

Richard is available for lectures, presentations, workshops, botany outings, more in-depth courses, and small study groups and one-on-one mentorships.

Richard is director and co-founder of the ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism, which offers a full three year herbal training program in New York City.

Herbal Medicine Classes

Richard is available to teach and/or lecture on a wide variety of topics related to plants and herbal medicine, including the following:

  • Clinical uses of herbal medicines on a wide range of topics
  • Diet and Nutrition
  • Field Botany and medicinal plant walks
  • Organic herb gardening
  • Herbal medicine making

Mentorships and Study Groups

  • Richard is currently mentoring students following the guidelines of the American Herbalists Guild Mentorship Program. He is open to discussing with any serious student the possibility of arranging for private mentoring sessions,or small study groups.
  • Prerequisites: At least an introductory knowledge of herbal medicine, and a commitment to serious study. Interview required.
  • Areas of Specialty: Clinical practice utilizing both Chinese and Western / Eclectic approaches, native plants. Beyond clinical herbalism, Richard can mentor students in medicine making, field botany (identification of medicinal plants in the wild), herb growing, and ethical wildcrafting.
